Facebook’s Secret To Managing Multiple Business Campaigns: Business Accounts

There are many reasons why Facebook's advertising could present more trouble than its worth. One big reason is that for many companies, Facebook advertising is permanently connected to a user account. Which means if the administrator, or owner of the page, leaves the company, he/she takes all the Facebook ad history (creative and analytics reporting) with him/her. You can always add another manager, but you can never transfer your administrative rights.

Another big reason is that for companies like Broadstreet Consulting, who manage multiple accounts, it is not possible to designate different payment methods for different campaigns. All of your campaigns will be charged to the same primary payment method that you have listed. Facebook will attempt to bill charges to your primary payment method first, but in the event that a payment fails, they will attempt to bill other payment methods that you have associated with your account. This means it is very likely, especially if you don't already know this, that Facebook will bill the wrong credit cards for your clients.

There is a solution: the Facebook business account.

What is a Facebook business account?

Facebook has two kinds of accounts:

  1. Personal accounts
  2. Business accounts

Personal accounts are the most common kind that represents a real person. They come with a profile page and they can "act" on facebook (like things, comment, have friends, etc).

Business accounts have no profile pages and cannot “act” on Facebook. They aren't associated with a person, only an email address.

Business Accounts

  • Are used to manage Pages and Ad Campaigns
  • Can't be found in search
  • Are unable to send or receive friend requests or build apps
  • Can see public information about other people on Facebook, but can't interact with those people except as a Page
  • Don't have a personal profile tied to them

Why should your organization have a Facebook business account?

  • Ability to create one business account that has a shared password that can be used by many team members.
  • Ability to designate different payment methods and currencies for different campaigns.
  • Ability to provide continuity to Facebook advertising efforts.
  • Avoid attaching a company credit card to a personal Facebook account for the purpose of advertising.

How to create a Facebook business account

To get a business account you will need to contact Facebook customer service via email, because all of their correspondence is done through email only. You will have a Facebook representative set one up.

You will need to send him/her:

  • an Email address (cannot already be in use on Facebook or be a general email alias such as info@ or admin@)
  • Time zone
  • Currency type
  • End advertiser name
  • End advertiser legal address (for business verification purposes only)
